It can be difficult as sometimes it is only a whisper but your subconscious and unconscious hear it and believe it to be true.

If your self-talk is negative, you can start to doubt that no matter what you do, you will never be successful. This can lead to low self-esteem, low self-confidence and lots of self-doubt. All of this just makes you want to stay in bed in the mornings and forget about trying anything during the day.
If these beliefs are not changed, you can start to feel lots of stress which if left unattended can lead to depression. It is also possible to have more serious health issues as well.
How does your negative self-talk begin?
Growing up you were given beliefs by your parents, friends, teachers and later by your own observations of what is going on around you. Some of these beliefs can be powerful and empowering. Unfortunately, some of these beliefs can be limiting, which are also very powerful. These limiting beliefs cause you to doubt your own abilities. Your ego picks up on these beliefs and starts to confirm them through your self-talk.
You can also be influenced by social media. You need to understand that the people posting on their social media accounts are not posting all aspects of their life. They are only posting those good, highly positive things sometimes with a little help by editing their material.
You need to stop comparing yourself to them. You only need to compare yourself to your past self.
So how do you change your self-talk?
First you need to actively listen to your self-talk. When you hear negative things being said you need to tell yourself “No” and just stop and replace any negative words and thoughts with the opposite positives.
Next you need to go over all of the reasons why you feel that can’t do something and trace them back to the underlying cause for that feeling. Then you have to work on replacing the negative belief with a positive empowering belief. This can be difficult since many of your old beliefs have become habits and old habits can be hard to break and replace.
You now need to build up on all of the positives and successes that you have had in the past. Remember how you felt and bring those feelings and emotions to work whenever a negative thought enters your mind.
